Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 8th issue of Star Wars: Jedi Knights from Marvel Comics!

The series thus far has given us issues from a multitude of various Jedi Knights & Masters from the prequel era. This issue however goes in a different direction, and a different perspective all together! Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #8 by Marc Guggenheim (Writer), Madibek Musabekov (Artist), Luis Guerrero (Color Artist) & VC’s Clayton Cowles (Letterer) is a tremendous issue with an incredibly unique perspective!

The Story

I would really like to know where Marc Guggenheim got the inspiration for this issue. It is single handedly the most unique single issue of a Star Wars comic I have read in quite some time. The story is about a young girl named Soona Taj, who’s being recruited to join the Jedi Order.

That isn’t the unique part, we’ve seen that before in various other forms of media in the last 26-ish years. What makes this unique is that the whole thing is told from the first person perspective!

It’s a really fresh take on what otherwise could be a story we’ve already seen before. Honestly, it’s a bit of a risk but it pays off so well. I don’t know if we’re going to see Soona Taj again, but I certainly hope so.

The Artwork

Madibek Musabekov & Luis Guerrero do a tremendous job with the artwork in this issue, and much like the story it’s incredibly unique. Once you factor in the fact that you’re going to have to draw a comic where the entire issue is from the perspective of a young child, you’re going to realize it’s incredibly limited in scope and what you can show.

However that does not hurt the art at all, instead it makes it great. Madibek & Luis both do a tremendous job conveying the story from panel to panel with the limited scope they’re given. It works on so many levels, and you really have to see it to believe it!

Overall Grade: 9.0/10

FINAL POINT: This is easily one of the most unique issues I’ve ever read, and it’s definitely one of the most fun ones I’ve read recently. It’s easily accessible for every Star Wars fan, and should be a MUST READ.
