The Story
What can start out as a seemingly innocent interaction can also have very dark intentions, and that’s something you learn very quickly in Skinshifter #1. Amya Fitzgerald lives what seems to be a pretty normal life; friends, family, crushes on boys, dating. The usual stuff that makes up the life of a normal girl.

However, there’s moving parts happening where she can’t see that’s so much darker than she could imagine. What Amya doesn’t know is that she is being haunted, and the Jackal Bunny won’t stop until she gets what she’s after. The Jackal Bunny, a mysterious and evil entity that’s come straight from the depths of Hell, is on a mission for Amya’s soul, and isn’t afraid to use what she needs or who she needs to get what she wants.
The Writing
Just in time for the spooky season, Kevin Davis delivers a story that’s original and has you looking behind your shoulder while reading. Not knowing who’s to be trusted in the story, the reader is kept on their toes when pieces start coming together and the plot is revealed.
The dialogue was written with excitement and reads exactly that way. These characters’ dialogue gives you an excellent chance to understand their relationships and show what a rich history they share together. You can feel the emotions of the characters through the words, which adds layers and depth to the story.
The Art
With high energy that shows throughout the comic, the artist did a great job matching that tone to the characters. The emotion shown on their faces was illustrated flawlessly, making the reader feel the action of the comic even more so. What I really enjoyed was how Jackal Bunny looked when she revealed herself. Making you second guess her sweet dress and haunting bunny mask, Sabrina Jackal, AKA Jackal Bunny, makes it very clear she is much more of a threat than meets the eye.
Final Thoughts
This comic couldn’t have come at a better time with Halloween just around the corner. If you’re into the spooky vibes like I am, then Skinshifter #1 is the comic for you.
