The Story

In the thrilling event of X-Men: Age of Revelation, we see just how upside the world is after the X-Virus wreaked havoc thanks to the detonation of the Gene Bomb. Mutants turning onto fellow mutants, team members against their own, and others changing themselves entirely.

That brings us to Rogue Storm #1, where we see what could’ve been thought to be the impossible, X-Man against X-Man, more specifically, sister against sister. Five years into the dystopian world, the world-loving, adored by all, God of the planet, Ororo Munroe, AKA Storm, has lost her mind and has gone mad.

She is now a threat to all and the world itself, and Rogue knows exactly what must be done; Storm must be killed.

In a harrowing comic written by the incredibly talented Murewa Ayodele, we get a huge idea of just how upside down the world is thanks to the likes of Doug Ramsey, AKA Revelation. Storm, who is always cool under pressure, who always put the needs of others before herself, who is much stronger than the world gives her credit for, is no longer the Storm we know and the X-Men love according to Rogue. Now, we must see the tension and the hatred between two powerhouses who were once as close as sisters.

What kind of world can it be when its biggest defender, the one who put the good of the world over herself time and time again, is now its biggest enemy? If their continuing story is anything as exciting as Rogue Storm #1, we are in for a wild ride I don’t want to get off of.

The Art

Rogue Storm #1 is full of artwork that’s as hard-hitting as the story itself. Roland Boschi is the artist of the comic and brings so much fire to each and every page. Matching the heightened tone of Murewa’s writing, Boschi uses a mix of emotions illustrated perfectly with the exact right amount of details in each panel to hammer down the energy of the story.

Along with Boschi, Neeraj Menon handles the colors and does so elegantly. There is a constant contrast between the reds and the blues, which continuously reminds you about the differing sides throughout the comic and provides a beautiful juxtaposition throughout the read. Together, Boschi and Menon work beautifully with one another to create a comic that’s artowkr is all gas and no breaks.

Overall Grade – 10/10

I will read anything Murewa Ayodele writes, especially if it includes Ororo Munroe. In Rogue Storm #1, there’s a huge mixture of big emotions that only Ayodele could write with grace and beauty.
