From the world of ‘The Boys,’ ‘GEN V‘ is back. Episode 7 of season 2 just dropped. Leaving only the finale to go. Marie is determined to uncover the truth and stop whatever plans Dean Cipher has cleverly concocted. As crap is really hitting the fan, it’s also “Hell Week” at Godolkin U.
WARNING: There are no spoilers for episode 7. However, there are plenty for any past episodes.
Last Seen on ‘Gen V’
Episode 6 gave us familiar faces from The Boys, a lot of gore, and some shocking revelations. After a Kool-Aid Oh YEA save by Sam, our Godolkin U super supes decided to hold up at an abandoned library complete with some sweet shirts. Perfect for replacing their Elmira prison attire.
With a giant Viking supe on their ass, they get a save from an unlikely and familiar duo. Stan Edgar, and his tenacle mouth supe granddaughter, Zoe. In addition to learning Zoe is no longer at Red River (which we saw at the end of The Boys season 4), we also learn that the only other survivor of the Odessa project other than Homelander, was Marie. However, at first she was considered a failure.
Edgar believes Godolkin is the key to defeating Homelander. A mission he wants completed so he can take his place back at Vought. The kids believe Godolkin is the old guy at Dean Cipher‘s. We wrap up with Polarity throwing Dean Cipher out of a window, Marie running away, and Cate following her.

‘GEN V’ Season 2 Episode 7: “Hell Week”
While Annabeth may not have top supe powers, what little power she does have alerts her and the others that Marie has left. As she wakes up everyone, they’re, rightfully, angry that Marie and Cate are gone. Meanwhile, Cipher continues to lick his wounds. Which seem more ego than physical, despite being thrown from a window. Marie and Cate are now on a mission with only one goal in mind. Despite not knowing how it will pan out. We wrap up with meeting a new and very unexpected character, and witnessing an unnecessary and cruel death.

The Hero’s Journey
Throughout both seasons of ‘Gen V’ we’ve been focused on Marie. At first it seemed as if she was simply the underdog. As her story has unfolded we’ve learned she’s anything but. She fine tuned her powers and learned she was literally built for greatness. She now seems a bit too quick to try and fix everything on her own. Her youth and cockiness seem to get the better of her in this episode. It becomes clear toward the end, she can’t do this on her own, and she’s still got a lot of miles to go on her Hero’s Journey.

Overall Grade: 8/10
With only one episode left, “Hell Week” gave us a huge reveal, and set up the finale in a way only the world of The Boys could do. The reveal we got was so perfectly delivered. Questions were answered, all while giving so much more depth to this universe. While Dean Cipher’s puppeteering abilities have shown incredible power, his biggest strength seems to be his patience. He’s played the long game, and now he’s ready to complete his mission.
Season 2 of ‘Gen V’ continues to deliver on amazing storytelling while beautifully sewing in twists and turns throughout the entire The Boys universe. All while continuing to shock and disgust in ways that make you laugh, turn your head, and remember that these aren’t the superheroes you grew up on.
