Season 2 follows the events in The Boys season 4. To help get you hyped here are my top 5 moments from season 1.

WARNING! There are a lot of season 1 spoilers ahead.

#5: The Puppets

Sam, Luke’s brother, is such a complex character. He’s so strong that one fist to the stomach can literally lead to a knuckle sandwich from the inside. However, he also has an incredibly lovable side, with a dose of some mental health issues. He blames his strength and his mental state on the Compound V. Learning his parents did that to him intentionally did not help the situation, and neither did the experimentation, torture, or imprisonment. Nevertheless there is still an innocence to him, and much like with Black Noir in The Boys, we see that a bit through puppets.

After Emma helps Sam escape ‘the woods’ his captors eventually catch up to him. This is shortly after he sees TV Jason Ritter, and puppet The Deep. Sam is suddenly a puppet himself surrounded by puppets with guns ready to imprison him again. So he rips the stuffing out of them. A scene that would have made me turn my head for a moment, instead made me laugh. Until the scene cuts back to an insanely gruesome live action version. A seamless and perfect transition.

#4: Marie Finds her Potential

The show starts with an intense and graphic scene. Not unusual for The Boys by any means, and much like The Boys it’s an origin story. Marie’s Compound V didn’t kick in until puberty, and lucky her she got blood powers. While she accidentally kills her parents with her first period in the first scene, she turns that power bad ass by the end of the show.

She saves a helicopter of humans by pulling blood from dead bodies just laying around, and stabs an attacking supe. The director of the well known blockbuster, Dawn of the Seven, was among those saved. To which he mentions that he’s putting that in his next movie. While this scene was badass and shows Marie’s character development in more ways than one, my favorite part of this scene came right after. Marie and Jordan then have a moment of celebration. Cate quickly goes to ruin it by touching Jordan, but instead Marie blows her hand off. It took me by complete surprise, and I loved it!

#3: The Fundraiser

With the recent death of Brink followed by Luke’s suicide, Godolkin U is full speed ahead on PR and fundraising. The fundraising event attracts quite a few parent cameos. The fundraiser itself is not the best moment. It’s seeing the relationships each of these kids have with their parents. Parents who all chose to shoot their kids up with compound V as a baby, having no clue what kind of powers they would be granted. Or if that would ever be something their kid would want.

You see each kid struggle with being accepted as who they are. Their parents have had expectations for them since they were born. We then learn about Cate’s backstory, and Marie comes clean about hers. I felt this was a great way to have the group bond and move forward together.

Check out another show Lauren is reviewing: PEACEMAKER Season 2, Episode 3.

#2: Emma’s First Kill

I instantly fell in love with Emma. She’s Marie’s new roommate, and she is honestly the type of friend everyone should have (and be). She’s supportive and lovable, but she’s got her own drama. She pukes to get tiny, and becomes Little Cricket. She’s on the path to supe entertainment. That is until Andre asks for her help in breaking Sam out of the woods. She’s immediately down.

We see her sneak in and after some hilarious and adorable back and forth with tiny Emma and Sam, they’re found out. She hides and then sees how Sam is being treated. Before she knows it she’s in one ear and out the other…literally. She killed a guy by running through his brain. Maybe Scott should have tried that with Thanos. It changed the trajectory of Emma’s story, and her personal life. While also showcasing she’s not just here for amusement.

#1: A Little Pillow Talk

My number one, may be a bit biased. Or a lot biased. While I fell in love with The Boys show and comic before Jensen Ackles was ever cast as Soldier Boy, that casting definitely made me fall deeper in love. I’m a sucker for Dean Winchester (his character on Supernatural), and seeing Ackles play Soldier Boy has been fantastic. So his cameo in Gen V is my absolute #1 favorite moment from season 1.

Andre, Marie, and Jordan are inside Cate’s mind trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Enter Soldier boy coming in hot (figuratively of course). He’s dropping the most out of control hilarious lines, and then tells them how he impacted Cate’s ‘sexual awakening.’ He of course, uses much better dialogue to communicate this, and informs them of her soldier boy pillow. Followed by a very defensive response to being called a Russian spy. He farts the Star Spangled Banner, in case anyone forgot. While this moment was absolutely hilarious, it also tied in the main show a bit, and Soldier Boy did give them some advise on how to get out alive.
