It’s been a long time since we saw a story involving everyone’s favorite wall crawler from the early 1990’s, but it’s like no time had passed at all! Things kicked off with a bang with Morlun and none other than Kaine making their debut into this universe! So just what could it all mean for Peter Parker? Let’s jump into it!

Spider-Man ’94 #2 by J.M. DeMatteis (Writer), Jim Towe (Artist), Jim Campbell (Color Artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer) is another great issue that continues the excellence that comes with a connection to the legendary Spider-Man animated series.

The Story

J.M. DeMatteis pens another incredible story that feels like it comes right out of another season of that legendary animated series. He expertly weaves the over arching story that’s still building between what’s going on with Morlun and Peter Parker’s life.

Peter’s story continues to feel like it’s pulled right out of the animated series, as he continues to balance his Spider-Man life with his personal life. Also, how annoying is Aunt Anna? Spoiler alert: VERY. The story also feels very much like one that you could be reading in the main 616 universe. It works so incredibly well on multiple levels.

As for the Morlun/Kaine story, their story is very appropriate for the time of year. It’s got a horror movie vibe that I’m really enjoying. It’s hard to say where it’s going to be going from here, but I’m excited to see where it goes.

And before I forget, there’s also the bombshell comment made to Mary Jane in the issue. It’s almost a blink & you miss it moment, but it’s sure to be a major focus in the third issue. If you’re a fan of the animated series, you’ll want to see this.

The Artwork

Jim Towe & Jim Campbell bring their A game yet again with this issue. The action sequence is so spectacularly drawn and it captures the look and feel perfectly. Bringing back something as beloved as Spider-Man the animated series is a tall task, but Towe and Campbell continue to show why they’re the best ones for the job.

FINAL POINT: J.M. DeMatteis continues to bring back the magic that was Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and together with the artwork from Jim Towe & Jim Campbell that it feels like the perfection continuation of the series.

Overall Grade: 9.0/10
