Catch up with Phoenix #14 here!
The Story
At the end of Phoenix #14, we saw all of the previous hosts of the Phoenix Force join Jean Grey in her battle against the cosmic beings that had decided Sara Grey had to die. That includes Rachel Summers, Hope Summers, Fongji Wu, Rook’Shir, and even Quentin Quire. All of these beings showed up to fight alongside Jean in the White Hot Room to save the life of her sister, whose existence the gods deemed threatens the structure of the universe.
Now, in Phoenix #15, the battle rages on in the fight against Jean and her family of previous hosts. All of the previous hosts of the Phoenix Force knows what’s at stake and still showed up without a second thought, which is exactly the support Jean needs. However, will that be enough? The gods vote to pass judgement, and it seems their minds are already made up in terms of killing Sarah Grey.
We have reached the end of the Phoenix comic series, and I’m so pleased with how much I loved it. Stephanie Phillips proves time and time again that she puts her heart and soul into her comics, and Phoenix proves just that. There was so much heart intertwined into the story, it’s hard not to make an emotional connection to Jean.
Throughout the comic, we see so many instances that show how worthy Jean is of being the defender of the universe, even if she doesn’t see it herself. All the way to the end, we see so much compassion and love from Jean for her family, for the universe, thus cementing the fact that she has changed the Phoenix Force forever.
The Art
Roi Mercado is the artist behind Phoenix #15, and I have to say this might be the best artwork of the entire series. We see some really great shots, including a beautiful full-page look at every previous host of the Phoenix Force and Jean. With an excellent mix of abstract art and the flames of the Phoenix, Mercado makes this comic a symbol of the power of the Phoenix Force.
Along with Mercado is Java Tartaglia, who handles the colors. Tartaglia elevated the art with his work on the colors, giving us a gorgeous flame-engulfed comic that brought a whole new light to the White Hot Room. Together, Mercado and Tartaglia enhanced the story by bringing it to life with their incredible talents.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a Phoenix fan, or a Jean Grey fan, then this comic series is the one for you. I wasn’t a huge Jean fan before reading this, but despite all odds, Stephanie Phillips changed my mind.
Overall Grade – 10/10
