A Unfinished Magic: The Gathering story is back. Writer Dan Watters, Artist Owen Gieni, Colorist Hilary Jenkins, and Letterer Clayton Cowles have written a beautiful story.
The immediate first thing I notice is Owen’s art. He really knows how to convey what is happening in the story.
Elspeth’s story in this first issue is told in a really beautiful way with the that Owen has done his art. You tack on Hilary’s coloring and Clayton’s lettering work, and this comic speaks for itself.
Meanwhile, Dan’s writing is amazing. The last time we saw Elspeth’s story was in the Theros Beyond Death card set back in January 2020. So, Dan has made it seem like no time has passed at all with the story. He also has written a super enjoyable story.
As for the story, we see Elspeth going through a lot. She gets stabbed, she stabs a guy, and so much more happens to her.
Dan really knew how to make her story stick with this first issue. I would not be surprised if he get other Magic: The Gathering comics to write in the future.
Overall Grade: 10/10
I’m in love with this series, just one issue in. Every single Magic: The Gathering fan will absolutely love Stories Untold: Elspeth. I cannot wait for the rest of the issues.
