It’s a new year at Godolkin U, and the students are eager to learn how to Make America Super Again. From top supe influencers, to who will be the next member of The Seven. God U is ready for a new year.

While this review may be spoiler free for season 2, it is not for season 1 of ‘GEN V’ or season 4 of ‘The Boys.’ So if you’re behind, catch up, and come back when you know Tek Knight and Webweaver’s safe word.

Check out my top 5 moments from Season 1.

Last Seen on ‘Gen V& ‘The Boys

The last time we saw Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo), Jordan (London Thor & Derek Luh), and Emma (Lizzie Broadway) they were locked in a room with no doors.

This was thanks to the help of Homelander, who thinks they’re animals for turning on their own kind: Supe-Kind. However, Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) chose a different path at the end of season 1. Which led them to some cameos on ‘The Boys’ season 4.

The last time we saw them, Cate whispered something in Frenchie’s ear causing him to follow her and be taken. While, Sam held back Kimiko as she audibly screamed, “NO!”

GEN V Season 2 Episode 1: New Year, New You7.5/10

The first scene of the season, kicks right off with an explosively disgusting opener, that only a show in the world of ‘The Boys’ could pull off. Followed by the ever perfect spinning of the news that this world is again so good at accomplishing. While still keeping everything entertaining.

We don’t wait long to see how Marie and friends get out of the doorless room. What all happened while they were there, however, is not immediately shared. We also catch up with Cate and Sam, and see how everyone is handling the fact that Andre is no longer with them.

In addition to a new year, new you, there is also a new Dean. One with a name that Emma feels the need to point out. After Cate forced the last Dean to slit her own throat, Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater) is now in charge.

Episode 2: Justice Never Forgets8.5/10

The new Dean is truly proving himself to be worthy of governing a school full of supe students. He seems to always know what’s going on, and he wants nothing more than to unlock the full potential of his students. With an extra interest in Marie, he’s pushing them to their limits. Maybe even past them.

Meanwhile, an unexpected duo goes on a research hunt in what proves to be a very enlightening mission. As well as equally hilarious. Whether you’re at a supe or human college, pay attention to what pills you’re taking kids. We end with another tragedy deemed worthy to save the image of whatever Vought wants.

Episode 3: H is for Human8/10

Marie’s past has been a bit of a puzzle since the first episode of season 1. She’s struggled with feeling responsible for her parents’ death, while also not understanding why they would ever shoot her up with V. Some puzzle pieces begin to fall into place in this episode. While still also causing her to ask a lot more questions. As Marie starts to get a better sense of things, Jordan is thrown into a lose-lose situation, that’s far from “transtastic.”

With a title like ‘H is for Human’ and this being the world of ‘The Boys’ you know we’re getting a puppet or two. Which always seems to add a level of depth and hilarity to any scene. The puppets help show Sam begin to spiral a bit. He’s leaned on a crutch for far too long, and now he’s got to figure out how to handle things on his own.

‘Gen V’ Season 2 is off to a bloody good start

While the storyline itself is incredibly serious, and often reflects the state of the country today, they never forget what show this is. Whether we’re seeing a supe hit their crotch with a bat yelling “JUMANJI!” Or a supe being used as a beer pong ball in a hula dress. You’re sucked into the story. All while still being able to laugh and ask yourself, “What the hell?”

A highlight for me has been Lizzie Broadway’s portrayal of Emma. She’s incredibly self aware, calls out the BS, and is exactly the person you’d want by your side. She’s always bringing comedy and good points to any scene she’s in. Big or small… pun intended.

Episodes 1-3 Overall Grade: 8/10

Each of these 3 episodes packed so much story, mystery, and trauma. Both for the characters and the audience. With so much already unpacked in the first 3 episodes, you know the season is only going to get that much more chaotic and shocking. In both the good, and turn your head away for a second, ways.

If you’re a fan of ‘The Boys’ and you’ve been sleeping on ‘Gen V’ it’s time to wake up. While these shows are both fantastic stand alone, the fact that they take place in the same world is impossible to ignore. From flyers, to the news, cameos, comments made, and more. This universe is growing bigger than a very happy Emma chugging a keg, at a party you’re not going to want to miss.
