Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the FIRST issue of the 4-issue mini-series, Boba Fett: Black, White & Red from Marvel Comics!

This is the third time Marvel is doing a black, white & red series in Star Wars. The first two were Darth Vader in 2023 (by Jason Aaron) & Darth Maul in 2024 (by Benjamin Percy). These stories are always visually spectacular & that’s because the color palette is limited to just 3 colors in black, white & red!

Benjamin Percy is back as the writer for the Boba Fett series. So just what does he have in store for everyone’s favorite bounty hunter? Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Boba Fett – Black, White & Red #1 by Benjamin Percy (Writer), Chris Allen (Penciler & Inker), Craig Yeung (Inker), Rachelle Rosenberg (Color Artist) & VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer) is an incredible start to a very promising series!

The Story

Benjamin Percy’s story in this issue is very simple, but so incredibly effective! We get to see Boba Fett at the absolute height of his fame & notoriety, and it’s AWESOME. It’s not explicitly stated, but it’s safe to say this issue takes place during the original trilogy time period.

The story is incredible because Boba Fett comes in, kicks the door down and does not care. All he does care about is getting paid, and hoe doesn’t care where it comes from. Benjamin Percy really has Boba Fett down perfectly in this issue. Seeing Boba track down a bounty he’s hunting and watching it develop & play out is easily the highlight of the issue. It’s such a classic feel for Boba, and it’s a feel that reminds me of a Saturday morning playing with my action figures.

The Artwork

Chris Allen, Craig Yeung & Rachelle Rosenberg truly do a tremendous job with the artwork in this issue. Despite being limited to just 3 colors, Rachelle does an incredible job using those 3 colors and their various hues to incredible effect. The penciling job in this issue truly is some of the best I’ve ever seen. The color work done in this issue really is some of the best I’ve ever seen in a comic.

FINAL POINT: The Black, White & Red series from Marvel Comics truly is one of the most unique series you’ll read at the comic shop. Benjamin Percy crafts a PERFECT Boba Fett story, and the artwork from Chris, Craig & Rachelle is tremendous! This is a series you do NOT want to miss out on!

Overall Grade: 9.5/10
