WOLVERINE #13 – “Godfather for a Day”

Published:

The hits just keep coming for Logan. Most recently he believed his mother to be alive. Old, but still fresh wounds ripped open to the point they almost seemed to heal. Only to learn Mastermind was behind it all. After ending him, there’s still no rest for the mutant who’s the best at what he does.

The Story for WOLVERINE #13

As Wolverine attempts to drink away the wounds reopened by Mastermind, the past comes calling. However, this time it’s not so traumatic. A descendant of someone known lifetimes ago asks for help. She makes him an offer, he can’t refuse. He actually could refuse, but he seems happy (in a grumpy Wolverine way) to help. Logan becomes gangster for a day.

The Art

From being surrounded by liquor bottles in the bayou to mobsters in Chicago. We get some beautiful backdrops. Additionally, we see Wolverine literally ripped to shreds taking the art to a different level. In between drowning his sorrows in liquor and mobsters, the art in this Wolverine run continues to be both gruesome and gorgeous.

Overall Grade: 9/10

This issue kicked off with some very unexpected Logan dialogue, only to be quickly cut off and right back to our regularly scheduled Wolverine. A grumpy Wolvie who wants nothing more than to not feel his feelings. However, that beginning scene shows how much that meeting with his “mother” impacted him. He felt things he’s never let himself feel before. While it reopened a wound, part of him may have healed in a way he’s never been able to heal before.

Cutting to playing gangster for a day then gave him a glimpse of another kind of world. A more black and white world. One he’s unaccustomed to, yet seemed to enjoy playing in. The cherry on top of the cocktail Wolverine would never order (he’s not using mixers), was a very fun and subtle cameo at the end. SNIKT!
