Service-1 is a Secret Service robot that’s job is to protect the President of the United States at all costs. One of his jobs is to taste the President’s food, but it’s the Chef Bot that really has his robot eye. As the bots fall into love, a greater conspiracy unfolds before them.

Love at First Programing

Service-1 is a dated Secret Service robot tasked with protecting the President. He has put his health on the line as he has taken a bullet for the President. Now back from injury Service-1 oversees taste testing the President’s food as prepared by a Chef Bot. Well spending time together sparks start to fly between the two and a love affair is born. However, there is a conspiracy playing out behind the scenes and the robots are caught in the middle. Can their love flourish under pressure or will they buckle under its weight?

Setting Up the Presidents Downfall

This first issue instantly makes the reader realize that they are reading a unique story. Chip Zdarsky is no stranger to the weird and wacky variety of comics, and he truly excels here. The romance of the bots takes center stage until the conspiracy starts to really kick in. But even then, the romantic aspect of the story still shines through. Zdarsky also does a tremendous job of bringing a good deal of humor to the story, which makes the read that much more fun.

The art looks great and really captures a modern feel. Rachael Stott does an excellent job with character design. Stott gives each robot their own distinct look which translates perfectly to their overall character traits. The color palette of Tamra Bonvillain brings the world to life and really draws you in to every panel. The story reels you in, but the art truly keeps you engaged.

Final Thoughts

White House Robot Romance #1 enters the reader into a unique love story with a twist of conspiracy. The humorful tone of the book is very entertaining; well, the romantic portion gives the book heart. Even though I am not a big fan of the romance genre, this issue still entertained me. If you are looking for a fun romance story with a twist, this is a must pick up at the LCS for you.
