Catch up with Robin & Batman: Jason Todd #2 here!

The Story and Writing

Jason Todd struggles with so much internal conflict from the devastation he’s experienced in his life, understandably so. He wants to do the right thing and follow in the heroic footsteps of Batman, but he finds it hard to do so when he finds himself holding back. How is he supposed to live up to Batman’s expectations of him when he disagrees with his mentor’s ways?

Now that he’s teamed up with a mysterious villain by the name of Wraith, Jason finds himself feeling like himself. Jason feels free, he feels like someone who doesn’t have to hold back any longer. As good as that sounds, does that mean what he’s doing is right? While Jason and Wraith are on their own mission to stop the creation of the drug, Reaper Red, Jason is able to see clearly the answer to that question. Batman, along with Alfred, are keeping track of the prodigy. They’re ready to help however they can, but when it comes to doing the morally right thing, the decision is up to Jason.

Jeff Lemire created a mini series that is drenched in so much emotion and darkness from Jason, and allows the reader to get to know Jason on an all new level. Jason is a wreck when it comes to figuring out his own emotions and where he stands as the new Robin, but Lemire clears the way and shows that Robin is and always will be a hero.

The Art

There are not enough words to describe how phenomenal the artwork of Robin & Batman: Jason Todd #3 is. Dustin Nguyen, who handled every bit of the artwork, really knocked it out of the park. From the beautiful watercolors on each page, to the lettering that made the reader feel each one of Jason’s inner thoughts, this was a gorgeous run all the way through. The emotion of the story bled into the artwork, and leaves you astounded at the talents of Dustin Nguyen.

Final Thoughts

This was a hard-hitting and beautiful comic run, and ended perfectly. The creative team outdid themselves with this.
