Scratching a Murderous Itch

The citizens of Woodbrook go about their daily lives as they try to live in a new normal after the murders were discovered in their own backyard. Now the only threat that appears to be in town is the wild animals who come into the town as construction has forced them out of their natural habitat. Just like the town Sam has also become accustomed to a new sense of normal. After getting away with her killings, she still needs to scratch the murderous itch. But now she travels away from Woodbrook to satiate her primal lust for killing. However, she and the rest of the town are getting online for the first time, which opens a whole world of killing opportunities.

A Whole New World

The second issue of this arc catches the reader up on what’s been going on with Sam and the town of Woodbrook. Patrick Horvath does an excellent job of bringing the reader up to speed on the goings on in Woodbrook, well at the same time introducing some new wrinkles to the story. Horvath’s introduction of WebLynx the internet service, is a great way to expand this world. My only detraction is there are a few parts of this issue that bog down a little with what appears to be filler about the town folk. But, even with that this issue is filled with some really good stuff.

The art in this issue is great and continues to be what we’ve become accustomed to in this series. Patrick Horvath does a masterful job bringing Woodbrook to life through the lens of a children’s book illustration style. That signature art style is what really catches new readers’ eyes and makes them take a second look at this title. Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou gets creative with the lettering in this issue, which really makes for a more fun read.

Final Thoughts

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #2 is a great follow up to issue one and really moves the story forward. Taking a step back after issue one and giving the reader an update on the town and Sam was 100% the right choice. This new arc is proving to be on par with the original arc that took the comic shops by storm. If you haven’t picked up issue one, make sure to grab issue two, and well you’re at it add this series to your Pull List.

Overall Grade: 9/10
