A WILD START

Believe it or not, issue #2 is matching the energy of the previous installment of this series. If anything, I dare to say this episode is even better. More action, more car chases, more chaos, more mayhem, more characters. Duggan, Lee and company just gave us more.

If I had to sum up the first issue, it would be Kill Bill vol.1 meets The Hangover on a birthday from hell. Two sisters were having a wild night in Las Vegas. To celebrate the youngest’s birthday. But fate had other plans tonight. Suddenly, a bunch of armed madmen attacked them. For seemingly no reason at all.

To the birthday girl’s surprise, and to us the readers as well, this unassuming lady belongs to a family that had been in some mythical war centuries ago. All the houses agreed peace deal and kept it. Until now. The different houses are making moves and they turned Las Vegas into a warzone.

SOLICIATATION:

“The smash hit grindhouse revenge tale of the summer careens through Las Vegas. THIS ENDS TONIGHT has murder, mayhem, action, comedy, exotic dancers, exotic animals, gun shows both literal and figurative — THIS ONE HAS IT ALL! Superstar JAE LEE (Inhumans) has never been better as he carries around Gerry Duggan (Deadpool). Get on board the party bus and grab yourself a weapon, ’cause the bad guys mean business.” (Image Comics)

CONTINUING THE TREND

Issue #2 is a similar scenario. A group of ladies are hosting a Bachelorette Party for another unassuming member lady. This group of ladies belonged to another one of these families that were supposed to keep the peace. However, the ladies were not ordinary citizens either.

They are, by all accounts, trained and skilled assassins. So when the armed hit men come after them, they do more than hold their own. I’m talking about a party bus chase and a shootout inside a shooting range business. Only in Las Vegas, right?

A BRIDE & A BIRTHDAY GIRL

Regardless, there are some important details that differentiate each episode. The first episode was a rude awakening for the birthday girl. She was learning her family’s history while ducking bullets and knives. Then, in the bachelorette’s case, she was so hammered she could not help being oblivious of her surroundings.

Both stories happened at the same time at the same place. That’s the major element at play in This Ends Tonight. Chaos will reign supreme throughout this entire evening in Las Vegas.

HOW ABOUT THE ART?

Jae Lee is pulling no punches in issue #2. Whether it is action, energy, gore, violence or sexy lady assassins, Jae Lee is giving it his all. With a showing of full mastery of the craftmanship in storytelling.

Alongside Jae Lee’s pencils, you also have June Chung’s expertist in coloring. However impactful the pencils may be, Chung’s coloring breaths life to this story. Just panel after panel, page after page. There are no idle moments nor wasted spaces.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

The team of Gerry Duggan, Robert Windom and Kelvin Mao delivered another masterpiece back to back. The debut issue was a major splash. Which set the tone for the series. Regardless, issue #2 is just as busy and chaotic as issue #1. I mean that in the most possible best of ways.
