The Space Vigilante Returns

After the events of Space Ghost Annual #1 we discovered that Jace and Jan’s Grandfather Doctor Henry Contra has made himself known. Now Doctor Contra is trying to forge a relationship with his estranged grandchildren. Throughout this issue he tries to gain their trust and build the beginning of their relationship. He also starts to understand their relationship with their caretaker “Dax” and their love and admiration for him.

Well, that is going on, Space Ghost is having a battle with a new villain, The Toymaker. This new villain has taken over a planet named Playtopia Prime and dubbed it Slaytopia. As he has taken the citizens hostage with the threat of blowing them up. Space Ghost must battle the Toymaker and beat him at his own game if he hopes to save Playtopia Prime.

Tempus is Coming

Space Ghost Vol. 2 #1 kickstarts the next journey for Space Ghost. David Pepose does an amazing job of picking up where volume one left off, well adding some wrinkles. This issue features a combination of the narrative of a returning grandfather and an epic battle occurring simultaneously. The way the story flows and moves seamlessly between the two coinciding stories really draws the reader in.

The art is what we’ve become accustomed to in this world, simply awesome. Jonathan Lau crushes it with his character designs and the worlds we visit. Lau truly brings the Space Ghost Universe to life and leaves the reader in awe. Andrew Dalhouse as always matches Lau’s art with the perfect color schemes, which make every panel jump off the page.

Final Thoughts

Space Ghost Vol. 2 #1 is the perfect start to this next chapter in the Space Ghost saga. The emotions run high, the action runs hot, and as always, the art hits a homerun. The best series in comics today keeps its throne and ups the ante even more. This is a MUST buy at the LCS, a MUST add to your Pull List, and my Pick of the Week. If that doesn’t tell you how good this issue is, I don’t know what else you need to hear.
