Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #7 – WHAT EVIL LIES INSIDE?

Published:

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 7th issue of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader from Marvel Comics!

Kylo Ren has been on a journey of self discovery in the previous 6 issues. He’s been lead on a journey into his grandfather’s past. It’s lead him from Tatooine to Naboo, and now it’s lead him to an individual who seemingly escaped his wrath. So will Kylo do, what Vader couldn’t? Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #7 by Charles Soule (Writer), Luke Ross (Artist), Nolan Woodard (Color Artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer) is a fantastic issue & further proof this series is as can’t miss as it gets!

The Story

Charles Soule truly is writing an absolute masterclass of a story when it comes to this series. Kylo Ren has been sent to the planet Lahtee on a mission to hunt down a Jedi that managed to survive the Order 66 purge. He is shown very quickly this is not going to be an easy walk in the park.

The Jedi shows they still got it, and manage to get Kylo Ren outside and tells him their story. This is where Charles really shows his greatness, because the back story he pens for this brand new character is simply astounding. It’s a story that will keep readers turning the page with an eagerness to learn more. It’s a story that is partly familiar but also different, and equally heartbreaking.

We know the stories of Obi-Wan, Yoda, Kanan, Ahsoka & Cal Kestis. However we don’t know this story, and that’s what makes it so fascinating. And it’s fascinating story in this issue that continues to show that despite how powerful Kylo Ren might think he is, he’s still just an ignorant student that has much to learn.

The Artwork

The work done by Luke Ross & Nolan Woodard in this issue is just spectacular in every panel. I particularly loved the flashback sequence in the issue because you can feel all of the emotions in those panels. I also love the blueish hue in those panels, and that’s something you don’t see in Star Wars comics a lot. It’s a small detail, but it’s one that really stands out to me!

I also have to give Ross & Woodard credit for the sequence at the end of the issue with Kylo & the Jedi. I won’t spoil what it is, because you have to see what it is for yourself. But suffice it to say, it’s one of the creepier moments I’ve read in Star Wars recently. And a little creepiness in Star Wars every now and then is always a good thing!

FINAL POINT: Charles Soule is an absolute master storyteller, and this issue is further proof to that legacy. Luke Ross & Nolan Woodard deliver artwork in the issue that I would hold up to any other comic on stands this week as the best in the industry. Every issue of this series is better than it’s predecessor, and sets up its successor wonderfully. It will leave you wanting more, and raise so many questions in your mind! You DO NOT want to skip this issue, or the series, at all!

Overall Grade: 10/10
