Gwenpool #4 – Into A New Redemption

Published:

It’s Peter VS Gwen. Writer Cavan Scott, Artist Stefano Nesi, Colorist Matt Milla, and Letterer Ariana Maher pulled together another amazing issue.

We kick off with seeing Gwen being brought back to life after dying. She then wakes up in a lab and kills the 2 scientists with her claws. We then see Gwen and the Great Architect have a conversation.

The comic then cuts back to the city, and Gwen is on a rooftop. The Architect tells Gwen she needs to return to base, which she refuses. He then shocks her, and she goes on to break up a fight between a few kids.

After that, Gwenpool-possessed Spider-Man goes and attacks Gwen. They get into a fight, and Kate proceeds to hit Gwen with a car. We then see Peter get webbed to a light pole.

Kate then proceeds to get punched by protestors. The book then cuts to 60s Peter and Gwenpool, and they have a conversation.

Spider-Man then breaks out of the webbing, and he continues to fight everyone. A beefed-up Jeff then shows up, and Ghost Gwenpool gives him belly rubs. We then see Gwen head to Gwenpool’s grave, and uses her claws to open the casket to reveal the skeleton.

Gwenpool then takes over Gwen’s body and reveals to her that Gwen is, in fact, a clone. The final panel reveals that Gwen is going to have to kill the entire Marvel Universe.

This issue was amazing, and I couldn’t review it alone. So, myself and fellow NI Comics Bullpen member Megan are reviewing it together, and you can see our thoughts on it below:

The Art

Kat: Stefano really knocked it out of the park this issue. Between seeing what happened to Gwen at the beginning of the issue and right through the end, the art rocks. I’m excited to see where Stefano’s art takes us in the last issue.

Megan: The artwork of Gwenpool has been consistently fantastic, and I’m happy to see that continue with Gwenpool #4. Some of my favorite panels from this issue took place in Peter’s head, where we see a very old school comic look which fits perfectly for Peter. Matt Milla knocks it out of the park with his work on the colors, which isn’t a surprise. Milla makes each page a work of art with his use of juxtaposing colors that leaves the page dripping in vibrancy.

The Story

Kat: Up to this issue, Cavan Scott has made an amazing story. This issue’s story is fantastic, and really gets me excited for the final issue. He has made this character relevant and fun to read.

Megan: Gwenpool #4 did a great job at showing more depth for Gwen Stacy. Seeing Gwen Stacy learning what’s actually happened to her was gut wrenching, but having Gwenpool in the background being the comedic relief was fantastic. I’m really curious to see what’s next, as Peter and Kate can now see Gwenpool outside of their own heads.

Overall Grade: 9.3/10

Kat: 10/10. I’m so excited to see where this last issue goes. I love this character, and this comic has been the perfect way to bring Gwenpool back into Marvel comics.

Megan: 8.6/10. Another excellent issue by Cavan Scott!
