Monster High: World’s Scare #1- The Ghouls Are Back

The ghouls are back. Writer Jacque Aye, Artist Carolina Shuda. Colorist Katherine Shuda, and Letterer Kielamel Sibal made a montress first issue.

We kick off with Frankie in her dad’s office. Now she is trying to fix one of her dad’s inventions, but she is having a case of Inventor’s Block. She then comes up with an idea.

Meanwhile, we cut to the Hauntly Hobby craft store, and Laguna and the others are there. They are getting items for protest signs, and Frankie walks in while that is happening. 

We then discover that one of the sponsors of the World’s Scare, Gloomtech Beauty, is testing their products on animals. It is also mentioned that there is going to be a protest during the World’s Scare.

From there, the girls get into a conversation with one of the store workers, Aspen. She mentions something about Dream Crystals to the ghouls, and we then see Cleo selling off her jewelry for a map to find these crystals. 

We then cut to the school, and Ghoulia and the other zombies are going through a Mind Control Recovery meeting. Everyone there is learning that what happened with Lothar wasn’t their fault.

She then gets a text from Cleo to meet up with her and the others. We then cut to Cleo and the others, and Laguna has the protest signs made already. While Frankie and Draculaura are figuring out where the crystals are, Ghoulia shows up. 

Everyone is then heading to try to find the crystals, and Cleo is hit with stones. Small devils then show up, and pelt all of the ghouls with the stones. Cleo trips on one of the stones, and she, Lagoona, and Ghoulia fall into water. Draculaura, Frankie, and Clawdeen make a run, while Ghoulia, Lagoona, Cleo, and Frankie’s arm are in the water. 

We then see the devils chasing Clawdeen, Frankie, and Draculaura. Cleo and the others proceed to climb through a hole. Frankie and co. then end up finding the dream crystals, but the devil’s leader is there as well. Frankie, Clawdeen, and Draculaura then plead their case for why they need the crystals. Cleo and the others then show up, thanks to Ghoulia’s guilt, the ghouls get the crystals. 

We then see Frankie back in her dad’s office, and Draculaura shows up. She is talking to Frankie. The final panel shows that Draculaura offers to be Frankie’s assistant. 

Final Grade: 10/10

This is exactly how you pick up from the end of New Scaremester. Seeing where everyone is at, while establishing what’s happening next, is perfect. I’m so excited to see where Jacque and the team are going to take this comic in the upcoming issues.
