The Story:
The Scorched Ultron continues his assault against the Church of Ultron. Meanwhile, Killerwatt has to decide whether to help the Avengers or save his father.
The Writing:
Gerry Duggan ramped up the stakes in this issue with by setting it firmly in the point of view of Killerwatt. He kept the momentum going throughout the issue and, as always, turned in a fantastic story. The team dynamic in this book has been the main selling point. With the group always seeming to be teetering on the edge of a knife, seeing them come together like true Avengers to battle The Scorched Ultron was a real treat. Duggan constantly reminds me that he is one of the best writers working today with solid team moments, individual highlights, and expertly crafted cliffhangers that keep me begging for the next issue.
The Art:
I talked about how truly scary The Scorched Ultron was in the last issue but thy ramped up the intensity this month. This art team not only did wonderful work throughout this book, but they keep finding ways to make me cheer while I’m reading. The fights between Ultron and The Scorched and the wonderful team-up moments towards the end of the book were expertly choreographed and beautiful to look at. The final page has one of the better images to illustrate the stakes of the story that I’ve ever seen. The cover art for this issue is incredible as well, what an image to entice people to pick up this issue.
Overall Grade: 10/10
I’m sure people are getting tired of seeing these perfect scores with this series but I can’t help it. This book has been consistently, my favorite book to read each month. Drama, action, betrayal, and a killer villain design, this issue was absolutely flawless!
