The Story:
Wow, this one gets dark, folks. We see a new side of Pranky that we have not seen before, but I still don’t feel any sense of sorrow for him. Despite that, though, Geoff manages to take what we feel about Pranky and turn that upside down in the final pages of this issue. The opening pages of the cereal and how it ties into the story at large was incredibly fun and I need that cereal to be a thing now. This issue seriously shakes some things up and leaves some uncertainty as to where and what happens from here making this run continue to be amazing.
The Art and Letters:
The opening pages of this issue, in the form of a cereal commercial turned dark, brought all of the Halloween vibes and were incredible. I loved how the team brought out a different and softer tone of art with some eye-popping colors in the opening pages. When the creatures come out and turn from kid cereal and into grotesque and horrifying creatures, the switch up took my breath away. They made it feel as though a nightmare came to life.
Rob’s letters hammered home the tonal switch in Pranky with our big twist at the end. The sense of Pranky being this awful soul-snatching child was taken away, and there came about a softness in his voice, almost in the end.
Final Thoughts:
Hyde Street #7 takes everything that we thought and flips this world upside down with a massive twist into something sinister and darker than we have seen before.
Overall Grade: 10/10
