As we near the end of season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City, things begin to get literally a little out of focus. The show affectionately referred to as the “Negan and Maggie show” airs Sundays nights on AMC and AMC+. While there are spoilers ahead for last week’s episode, no spoilers or hallucinations ahead for episode 7.

Last Seen on Dead City
Last week was all about liars, and zombies, and bears! Oh My! Well singular bear, but still, that gave me a jump scare, and was the last thing I expected. The way that thing attacked the walkers, it made me miss Shiva, Ezekiel’s Tiger. However, the bear was the least of Maggie‘s problems. After Hershel came through (which is not a guarantee these days) she was able to take down the bear, and move on to the next issue.
Meanwhile, The Croat deals with mixed feelings about the death of The Dama. As he puts the pieces together that Negan orchestrated what happened, he seems almost hurt. As Maggie ends up face to face with Negan, she does him a solid, and gives him the heads up that Bruegel plans to attack. He wants the methane.
Novi Dan Novi Pocetak
The title of this episode, “Novi Dan, Novi Početak” means, “New Day, New Beginning,” in Croatian. With The Dama no longer around to talk down to the Croat he should be able to shine in a way he’s only imagined. While he ends up taking someone on an unexpected journey, Negan is on a mission to save Ginny. A mission that seems a little too good to be true. As both Negan and Maggie are on different missions to save a kid things are not at all what they seem.
We wrap up with Jeffrey Dean Morgan channeling his John Winchester stating: “We got work to do.” However, the last second of this episode left me asking myself, “wait… what?!”
Check out Lauren’s review of her first Supernatural Convention from Creation Entertainment. Jeffrey Dean Morgan spent just as much of his panel talking Negan, as he did John Winchester: My First Supernatural Convention.
Overall Grade: 8/10
While Negan and Maggie have been on different paths throughout the apocalypse, their paths continue to cross, and for the first time, their goals are the same: save the kid(s). This episode really showed how parallel their causes are. As well as how similar they are, while still being incredibly different people. With a never ending battle of survival, neither of them have been able to properly grieve the death of their spouses, and their trauma shows in every decision they make. I find myself constantly rooting for both of them, even when they’re against each other.
All in all, this for me was the most intense episode of the season, with a few jump scares sprinkled in too. Walkers really haven’t been an issue this season. If anything, they’re becoming a resource. However, this episode was a reminder of how quick things can turn ugly when up against the walking dead.
