The Story:

Liberty is still missing after the New Champion’s run in with the giant frog monster from last issue. The Avengers step in to help the team find their missing teammate and put a stop to a larger threat!

The Writing:

Steve Foxe turned in another fantastic script this month. The story moved fast with excellent dialogue and interesting dynamics that will surely set up the story to come. I am continuously impressed by Foxe’s ability to write a large group of heroes and not only keep it from becoming muddled, but also never letting the character’s motivations or individual voices slip. The back and forth between Monte and Magnetrix and Magnetrix and Liberty were the real highlight here for me. Seeing the cracks in Monte’s resolve and the hardening of Magnetrix’s heart were heartbreaking in different ways. Not to mention that the last panel teasing what is to come was fantastic!

The Art:

The art team didn’t have an easy job this time around. Two teams of characters interacting and fighting, as well as, the emotional punch of the story made for a tall order for any creative team. Thankfully, this team absolutely nailed every single page. The art in this book is beautiful! The New Champions are such fun characters to see interacting with their unique powers and throwing the well know team of Avengers in the mix just added to the fun. The cover art continues to be a delight by highlighting the youth of this team!

Overall Grade: 10/10

Two weeks in a row, New Champions is a 10! This book just continues to be a blast to read. The writing and art are excellent and the story just keeps getting better and better. This book is at the top of my pile each week that it drops and I don’t see that stopping any time soon!
