Plague House is Brutal and I Love It
Brutal. That’s the first word that cam to mind after reading this issue of Plague House. Issues one and two were not without their fair share of violence, but issue three took it to a new level!
As we follow along with Del, we are watching a man descend into madness with the intent of doing good deeds. What’s fascinating is that at a point in this issue, we start to question whether he is anymore. His former partners and friends are being to suffer the side effects of his new crusade. Death and madness follow Del everywhere he goes and infects everyone he gets close to.
Blurring the Lines of Reality in Plague House
Michael W. Conrad spins a really twisted tale that only descends further into darkness with each issue. He uses each character to their optimal potential. We’re exploring two worlds at once at sometimes it’s hard to tell which is which! Conrad is almost spreading Del’s madness unto the reader!
The Bloody Art of Plague House
Dave Chisholm’s artwork in this issue was another feather in the cap that is Plague House. Horrific images, asymmetrical, uneasy angles, and beautiful lighting effects made this issue stand on it’s own! The ghosts or paranormal beings are creepy and engaging.
Of course I can’t go on without revisiting that first word in the review, “Brutal”. The brutality in the violence and the action is shocking and yet you can’t look away. I wouldn’t say it’s over the top, but it can be abrupt and grounded. The artwork is absolutely complimentary to the story!
Overall Grade 9/10
Issue 3 is great because I think it could honestly stand on it’s own. Reading issues 1 and 2 are obviously helpful, but you could pick this up, read it, and continue from there. A riveting story pushes at a balanced pace and breathes horror and mystery into every page. The artwork is fantastic. It’s appealing to the eyes and feels so gritty and original. Beautiful colors and line work highlight a great issue.
