The Story
In Wolverine and Kitty Pryde #1, we saw Kitty, Logan, and Mariko appear on a snowy mountain in a completely new setting. They were speaking Japanese as if it was their home language, and were dressed in ancient Japanese attire. Even though these changes were wild, the weren’t the strangest thing to happen. Logan, Kitty, and Mariko were attacked by a giant, snowy samurai.
That brings us to Wolverine and Kitty Pryde #2, when the small team fights the snowy samurai, but the fight ends when Kitty’s dad opens her door, and they’re back in her room. What’s strange is that it wasn’t an illusion or a dream, as Kitty and Wolverine are covered in blood and injuries from the battle. So, what could this possibly be?

Kitty, who got the worst of the injuries and doesn’t have a self healing power, stays behind while Logan goes out to find out more about this strange occurance. What he finds is a small statue, which Mariko describes as a beloved family heirloom, but she never realized what the figures were on the statue until now. The figures on the statue were her Logan, Kitty, and Mariko dressed in the same ancient Japanese attire that they used to fight the samurai. This statue is thousands of years old so how could they possibly be apart of the beloved family heirloom?
The Writing
Wolverine and Kitty Pryde #2 continues the same excitement as its predecessor, but has even more heart. With the loving conversation that took place between Logan and Mariko, or between Kitty and her dad, you can see so much emotion bouncing off the pages.
With that emotion, it’s also accompanied by the mystery of it all. How could the three be displayed on a statue from over a thousand years ago? Chris Claremont does a fantastic job at keeping you hooked into the storyline, especially in this comic where there seems to be many moving parts.
The Art
Damian Couceiro, Carlos Lopez, and Ariana Maher are the artists to thank for Wolverine and Kitty Pryde #2. The artwork in Wolverine and Kitty Pryde #2 evokes the classic vibe of the early X-Men comics, which I really enjoyed. Damian Couceiro does an outstanding job blending nostalgic elements with a modern flair. His attention to detail makes each page more engaging than the last. Meanwhile, Carlos Lopez brings the visuals to life with his vibrant coloring, striking a perfect balance between vivid superhero energy and a grounded realist vibe.
Overall Grade – 7.8/10
