WOLVERINE #9 – “The Long Road Home”

The last issue of Wolverine was an epic one celebrating 400 issues. While a lot happened, how we left Logan was the biggest shock. Logan’s childhood was a very long time ago, however, he still carries the pain of the mother who disowned him. Last we see him, she was somehow still alive, and reaching out for help.

The Story for WOLVERINE #9

We kick off with a very familiar scene. Wolverine at a bar with a beer trying not to knock out the local bigot, and contemplating his next move. His mother has been dead for over a century. How could he return home now, and find her? Despite Department H being on his ass, he decides to make the trek home, and see who or what is waiting for him.

The Art

This comic run continues to be full of classic and gorgeously detailed Wolverine art. From the bar, to the fight scenes, to the landscapes. An introduction of a certain person with a unique power, was done in a way that perfectly captured the powers, and made the page look absolutely beautiful. The art in this Wolverine run captures the story and helps move it along perfectly.

Overall Grade: 8.5/10

Wolverine #9 gave us some beautiful action scenes, moved more than one storyline along, and gave a few chuckles along the way. However, what I enjoyed the most in this issue was Logan’s internal dialogue. Wolverine’s past is always somewhat of a mystery. Between the amount of times his memory has been erased, he’s been brainwashed, or his healing factor altered a memory, it’s never fully clear what’s real. Going home can jog those memories and unlock more of the mystery. However, where we actually go in this story remains to be seen. SNIKT!
