After following the explosive events of the war in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution, things have finally come to head in the fifth and final installment. Carterton had just called a truce between the Midtown Mafia and the Chelsea Cartel. his plans didn’t turn out the way he had planned them to.

Meanwhile, The Resistance were getting situated after April activated the Teddy Bear Protocol, bringing them to their safe haven on Roosevelt Island.

The Resistance is under the impression they have a few moments to breath and get their home in order but they aren’t aware of a secret plan forming behind their backs. Actually more than one plan of attack is about to take place, and they’re none the wiser. Fortunately, Moja has a vision in her sleep of what looks to be the death of The Resistance.

She knows they’re about to be attacked, so she puts out a telepathic warning to all of their allies at Roosevelt Island of what’s about to happen. This gives everyone a little of a headstart to get into their battle positions. Once they’re in position, the battle of their lives begins.

The Writing

Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman give an action-packed ending to what’s been an incredibly exciting run for the Ninja Turtles. Getting to know these new Turtles, along with having some staple characters like April, has been such a fun experience as a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution #5, we see everything that’s been building finally come to fruition, and the writers could not have done a better job than they did. It was exciting to see the Turtles defend their family and friends the way their predecessors would have.

I really look forward to seeing what Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz come up with next for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, especially after how Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution #5 ended.

The Art

The level of detail the artists put into each character is absolutely stunning. The grittiness of each panel really sets the tone of the entire storyline. Esau Escorza, Isaac Escorza and Ben Bishop made each page feel powerful and exciting, which they have done consistently throughout this run.

The contrast between the dark and bright colors, courtesy of Luis Antonio Delgado, perfectly matches the tone of the story and brings a whole new depth. I think Delgado really showcased his talents with the panels that involve the explosions, as he turned something so tragic into a work of art. Shawn Lee handled the lettering of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution #5 and made each sentence pack even more of a punch. Overall, the artists did a splendid job, not just in this installment, but throughout the five issues of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution.

Overall Grade – 9.3/10
