Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 17th issue of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures from Dark Horse Comics!

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #17 by Daniel Jose Older (Writer), Harvey Tolibao (Illustrator), Michael Atiyeh (Color Art), Comiccraft’s Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betancourt (Letters), Harvey & Kevin Tolibao (Cover Art) is a decent story but it doesn’t really have any major implications for the next issue. This is supposed to be the “final battle” with the Nihil, but thus far it hasn’t had any major punch.

The Story

Firstly, the story is a decent one and continues the great action sequences we’ve seen in the last few issues. If there’s one thing this last few issues has done fantastically it’s the action sequences. Secondly, you get an overwhelming feel of just how crazy war can be with the start of this issue. It should be noted so much is going on and it really sets a frantic pace for the rest of the issue.

Subsequently with that my favorite part of the issue is the battle between Jedi Knight Farzala Tarabal and a familiar face. Above all it’s a philosophical battle involving lightsabers, and in my opinion those are the best types of battles. Sure you can have a battle with witty replies, but let’s get down to the nitty gritty and dig deeper into the combatants!

The Artwork

Undoubtedly, the artwork is as top notch as always. Harvey Tolibao & Michael Atiyeh are truly some of the best illustrators in Star Wars comics today. The colors are vibrant, and action sequences are crisp. And they really do a great job of bringing this battle to life. Without a doubt, if you see Harvey & Michaels name on an issue for the artwork, and not just for Star Wars, I HIGHLY recommend you pick it up. They’re truly an incredible tandem.

FINAL POINT

The story is a decent one, and the ending is interesting enough to leave me intrigued to see what happens next. Everything about the war between the Republic & the Nihil has been unconventional and this looks like it’s continuing right up to the very end. The artwork is incredible, and mixed together with the story you will NOT want to miss this issue.

Overall Grade: 8.0/10
