Welcome to Image Comics’ newest story, Lost Fantasy. Writer Curt Pines, Artist Luca Casalanguida, Colorist Mark Dale, and Letterer Micha Myers have created a beautiful first issue.
Luca’s art is something out of a fantasy painting. Each page is beautifully drawn and really helps to tell the story. Lucha’s pieces also help bring the book’s characters to life. The art is also brought to life through Mark’s coloring. Every piece is set with colors that match what’s happening in the story. Micha’s lettering work also helps to tie the story together.
Meanwhile, Curt’s writing really ties everything together. From the first panel to the last page, his writing draws you into the story. Now, the book’s story is East Of West meets Something Is Killing the Children, and you can really feel those influences throughout the book. There are also what feels like influences from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy video game series in this book as well.
Speaking of the story, Issue #1 introduces you to the book’s world. We get to see and meet our main character, Henry Blackheart. He is a rookie monster hunter, who gets pulled to Montana to deal with a monster who was hiding in the shadows. This first issue really set up what is coming in future issues.
Overall Grade: 10/10
Regardless if you read Fantasy comics or not, this is a series that everyone should read. Curt has crafted a beautiful story, and the result is an incredible book to read. From the writing to the art, this book has everything.
