Previously, the Avengers assembled all available heroes for one purpose: to take down Doom. The cast included the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and even Squirel Girl among others. In the end, their efforts were futile. Not only they were unable to cross the Latverian borders, they were also emarrased by Doctor Doom’s schemes.

DESPERATE TIMES…

Later after realizing that Doom’s policies have gained the support of the public, the Avengers decided it was time to think outside the box. The Self-Imposed ruler outmaneuvered the heroes and avoided any frontal confrontation. So, the head chair of the Avengers, Captain Marvel, came up with a 2 part plan to take the fight aginst the new Sorcerer Supreme. distraction.

UNDERCOVER SCARLET WITCH

First, they would require espionage experts to infiltrate the world capitols to reach their leaders and free them from Doom’s influence. For this mission she tasked the Scarlet Witch to lead a team of spies. Currently, Doom has incorporated the Fulgar Victoris, a secret police in charge of surveillance and capture of any anti-Doom descent actors. So, in order for Scarlet Witch’s team to be successful they would requiere a big distraction.

ENTER THE MASTERS OF EVIL

Along with the a scecret police, Doom has incorporated other kinds of aid. For example, the latest announcement by Doom was the launching of his very own ‘Superior Avengers’. As a result, Captain Marvel reckognized that conventional methods would not be enough to fight the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom. So, in an attempt at throwing the entire kitchen sink, she resorted to recruiting the Masters of Evil. They are M.O.D.O.K Superior, Doctor Octopus, Arcade, Baron Mordo, Mysterio & Gobblin Queen. However, vitory will be hard earn. Even with the newly added help.

A BATTLE OF GODS

As you can imagine the battle agaisnt the Sorcerer Supreme was always going to be an uphill battle. Eventually, the fight became way too dangerous, especially for the non-enhanced. Hence why Captain Marvel evacuated Sam Wilson aka Captain America from the battlefield and returned against his wishes him to the Impossible city. The Impossible City is the newest Avengers HQ, a sentient city that orbits outside of earth’s atmosphere. Once Wilson arrived to the Impossible City, his injuries were attended by the Impossible City’s repurposed Man-Slayers. These plastoids were leftover from the Mad Thinker’s attack on the Impossible City back in Avengers #11.

SECOND THOUGHTS

Despite his couragios efforts, Sam felt useless. The fact that he had to leave his team for medical aid did not sit well with the hero. Thus he began to question his place as a hero among the Avengers. After all, he was in the company of gods like Thor. How could a normal human be of help next to a Captain Marvel an Iron Man or a Scarlet Witch.

A MAD RETURN

Previously, the Mad Thinker remotely attacked the Impossible City with an army of Man-Slayer plastoids. The Mad Thinker was stopped and his plastoids were repurposed. But that was not the end of his scheme. In the Avengers #25 he revealed that the Man-Slayers were a Trojan Horse and they served to hack the city. Along with getting access to all the City’s tech, he also learned the wherabouts of the Asshen Combine. This is a group of world conquerors that gave the Avengers the most recent fight for their lives.

THE NEW MASTERS OF EVIL

Finally, Mad Thinker returns to the Impossible City but he’s not alone. While everyone was busy fighting Doom, a new crew of villains take control of the Avengers’ HQ. They call themselves the New Masters of evil. Because If Doctor Doom was the embodiment of evil that placed the origal Masters of Evil in the side of good. The New Masters of Evil are Mad Thinker, Mister Hyde, Dreadknight, Madcap and Exterminatrix.

HOW ABOUT THE ART?

While Valerio Schiti created some amazing action and emotional scemes that gave to this issue the souls that embodies the Avengers’ spirit, the coloring by Federico Blee gave it the life that held my suspense of disbelief.

OVERAL GRADE: 10/10

For reason or another comic book fans seem to be sleeping on this Avengers run. I’m here to wake everyone up to tell them, this is a must read. Jed McKay is writing an acton packed series filled with battles, fun and very human and believeable characters. When you least expect it, a plot thread from 3 arcs ago is picked up with perfect timing.
