Absolute Wonder Woman #7: Diana is a prisoner of Hades forced to battle in his arena for sport which gives him enjoyment as he has Circe held captive. However, Hades may have underestimated Diana and those close to him as there is a trick yet to be revealed and true power comes to those who have earned it.

The Story:

Kelly Thompson continues to up her game with the insane level of storytelling in this issue. The way she ties in lessons from Diana’s past and how they become relevant to what she currently faces is incredible. Persephone speaks with such softness towards Diana and then the switch of bitterness towards Hades as we go from the past to present makes this issue a standout.

I will say I need the battle between Hades and Diana badly and could read an entire novel of the two of them going back and forth at one another in a game of wits and dialogue.

The Artwork:

Mattia draws and colors child Diana with such a child-like wonder that it can be hard to recognize this is the same warrior as we flash to her intense battle against the Chimera. I love the detail and design of the Chimera built as a tiger and the flowing black hair making this unique. On the other hand Diana is drawn with such anger but, not towards her enemy and the way Mattia is able to convey that in the art blows me away.

I love the difference between Hades who is designed plainly as compared to Persephone who is drawn and designed with immense detail. All of the art leaves me staring at the pages and lingering in awe. Becca brings in her lettering adding to that mix match of a somber tone of voice as Diana defeats the Chimera and then the flashback sequences of when she was a child frustrated by the story.

Overall Grade: 10/10

Absolute Wonder Woman #7 is an incredible work of storytelling as we see the lessons Diana learns and the choices she makes as she is cemented as the Goddess and warrior we know her to be. I am raving about this run and how incredible every aspect is I cannot get enough!
