The Story:
While Eddie pitches a new game, the boys wrestle with the idea of playing without Will. Meanwhile, the past holds a glimpse at the epic campaign that got him hooked on D&D.
The Writing:
This writing team continues to create an entertaining story that perfectly interweaves between the past and present. Another thing that they do so well is capture the feel of playing D&D and other tabletop games. This is a wonderful representation of why this game is so long running and beloved. As I mentioned in my review of the first issue in this series, the writers nail the voices of these characters.
The Art:
While the writing team is amazing, the art team brings this issue to life in such a beautiful way. The real standout artwork comes in the form of the D&D sessions themselves. Seeing the characters experiencing the dungeon, not just the teenagers playing a game in the dining room, elevates the story to new heights. This is another piece of this book that shows that the creative team understands the allure of tabletop games, the immersion and getting swept away on an adventure. Of course, I have to call out the excellent efforts by this art team of capturing the faces of these well known characters.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
This series could easily be just a run of the mill prequal story. However, thanks to an interesting story well told and immersive art to go with it, this series is quickly becoming a must read for anyone who loves either Stranger Things or Dungeons & Dragons.
