The Story

After the wild happenings that took place at the Taxonomist’s house, Kwannon hasn’t been the same. She has been seeing and hearing things that aren’t there after she got blasted with the hallucinogenic butterfly dust, and it seems to be getting worse and worse. Now it’s affecting her mission with the X-Men, which can’t happen when things are so tense already with the Louisiana X-Men.

When on a mission with Magik, Psylocke gets distracted by what appears to be her passed on daughter, Himeko, who’s singing to her. The hallucination antagonizes her, blaming Kwannon for their death, which resulted in the X-Men’s target getting away. The team is frustrated, Kid Omega especially, but Kwannon makes an excuse of a “psychic echo” but still is shaken to her core.

Back at The Factory, the home of the X-Men, Kwannon still can’t shake what’s happening to her. Seeing her friend looking worse for wear, Magik tries to help, even offering that she knows a “ghost guy”. Kwannon brushes her off, and tries to center herself by calling John. But that’s when things become clear that it’s much more than Kwannon anticipated. It seems Kwannon has no choice but to take Magik up on her offer of meeting her ghost guy. The only problem is that they’ll have to head to Louisiana to meet him.

The Writing

I wasn’t really sure where we were heading after that exciting last issue of Psylocke, but Alyssa Wong clearly knows what she’s doing with Kwannon. Psylocke #6 had so much substance to it, and even giving us another crossover that I didn’t see coming. I found this comic book to be riveting all the way through, as it kept me on the edge of my seat when seeing Kwannon suffer the way she is with this haunting. I also really enjoy seeing Magik helping Kwannon and being a real friend to her, which is exactly what she needs through all of this. With that horrifying cliffhanger, I can’t wait to see what’s to come next with Kwannon!

The Art

The artwork through Psylocke #6 is haunting and sends a shiver up your spine, which establishes the tone almost immediately with Kwannon. Vincenzo Carratú and Moisés Hidalgo expertly mixes the terrifying visuals Kwannon is seeing with the real situations she’s already experiencing like working on a mission with Magik. Fer Sifuentes-Sujo adds even more power to the punch with his work on the colors, making it feel like something out of a horror movie. The artists go out of their way to make you feel all the eery feelings that Kwannon is experiencing, which only adds to the exciting storyline.

Overall Grade – 9.3/10
