The Story
The hunt for Death Grip continues! Deadpool doesn’t have a clue as to where Death Grip is currently, but he knows where to start. Deadpool did some digging and it seems that the same blade that killed him belonged to everyone’s favorite adamantium filled hero, Wolverine. With a quick visit to his favorite Canadian mutant, it turns out that there’s actually two of the blades, and the other belongs to someone named Solem. Solem is another mutant who happens to have Adamantium skin, which doesn’t do Deadpool any favors, especially with his healing power lacking. But Solem is the only way to find out where Death Grip is, so off into Ellie’s cellphone-created portal they go.
Arriving at Solem’s “Pleasuredome”, it becomes very clear that Solem is here for a good time, whatever that may include. Once they’re there, Deadpool finds out that Solem gave Death Grip the blade because he thought it would be funny, which Deadpool can appreciate. As I said, Solem is here for a good time, so he offers a bet to Deadpool, if he wins a duel of combat, he can have their heads, if Deadpool wins, they get to have Death Grip’s location. Since this is the only way to continue their journey to take down Death Grip, Deadpool and Ellie agree.
Meanwhile, Death Grip is changing and not in a good way. He’s confused, he’s acting erratic, and he’s killing anyone in site. The essence of the blade is changing him in ways he’s trying to understand, which won’t be good news for Deadpool, Ellie, Taskmaster, and Princess.
The Writing
Cody Ziglar set up some pretty exciting stuff to come with this long awaited battle between Deadpool’s team and Death Grip. With the team making strides towards taking down Death Grip, I’m really interested to see how they handle him after he’s changed so dramatically with the blade. In Deadpool #13, I think it did really well showing that the team still has secret weapons in their pockets, so I’m curious to see what they come up with next.
Another exciting installment in the Deadpool run by Cody Ziglar! After the cliffhanger in Deadpool #13, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
The Art
The artists continue to impress in this Deadpool run! Rogê Antônio gave us some stunning visuals in Deadpool #13, but I think most of the standouts have to do with Ellie and Princess. In their fight against Solem, we saw some really great fighting panels for those two. Adding in colors by Guru-eFx, the panels were feasts for the eyes. What I really liked tat Guru-eFX does is use contrasting colors to switch between tones. For example, Deadpool and Ellies panels are usually bright reds and oranges, while we switched to dark blues and blacks for Death Grip. It really brought a lot of depth to the storyline. All in all, the artists do another fantastic job in Deadpool!
Overall Grade – 8.5/10
