Five months ago I attended by my very first New York Comic Con (“NYCC”). I went to attend a panel called, ‘Marvel Fanfare.’ I had no idea what all was about to go down. What started as a panel discussing some classic Daredevil stories with the one and only Frank Miller, turned into just more and more amazing announcements. The release date for Daredevil Born Again from Disney+ was announced by Charlie Cox, and Vincent D’Onofrio. A trailer was shown, and a new comic was announced to release in the middle of the hugely anticipated Disney+ series. Charles Soule and Steve McNiven told us all about ‘DAREDEVIL: Cold Day in Hell.’ It’s officially out and (much like the show) completely worth the wait!

Story for Issue 1 of Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell
It’s the future. War is never ending, and an older powerless blind man talks to an old acquaintance whose six feet under. With no heightened senses, Matthew Murdock feels he’s just a normal blind man now. However, as he takes it one day at a time, the man without fear, still acts like a hero. Though not in the way that would require any special gifts. When the world suddenly comes literally crashing around him, he finds himself back in the thick of it in a very unexpected way. As he runs into an old friend, it’s not the reunion he would have liked. As the issue then begins to wrap up, we get one hell of a villain, who seems to have some very interesting and shocking “wall art.”
The Art
It is indeed a cold day in hell. The art in this perfectly creates the feeling that the story is telling. People are struggling, hungry, cold, and just trying to survive. In many different ways. Layering the torn apart city with snow, just adds such a beautiful and dark mood to a story that is just that. From the details to the colors to the expressions on each person’s face. Everything worked so perfectly together to create a truly cold day in Hell’s Kitchen. Then it all wraps up with a perfect shot on the very last page.
Overall Grade: 10/10
We get an old man Matthew Murdock, just trying to still be his Catholic best in a world that just takes. Despite it all he is truly still the Man without Fear. I can’t get enough Daredevil right now, and ‘DAREDEVIL Cold Day in Hell’ was the absolute perfect fix I needed. It’s a new story in a different time, but it’s still Matty through and through. Throw in an old friend, a crazy villain and another shocking cameo, and it’s the perfect storm for a fantastic Matthew Murdock story. I got to give DAREDEVIL: A Cold Day in Hell 10 out of 10 billy clubs.
