The Story
Following Jason Loo’s excited Dazzler run, we now have Concert of Champions #1, which includes Dazzler, Luna Snow, Lila Cheney, and Ghost-Spider! The Concert of Champions is a concert made up of fifty musical acts that want to peace and unity through music to the universe. Headlining the concert is Dazzler, Lila Cheney, and Luna Snow, but it seems one of the headliners aren’t in the right headspace for this. Dazzler is still reeling from the events of her world tour, and experiencing things like anxiety, hair loss, and fear. She doesn’t want to perform at the concert, but she doesn’t want to let the world know that the events of her tour are getting to her.
While the concert is in full swing, there’s another band that wasn’t invited but plans to make themselves known. A mysterious metal band named Deep Void crashes the concert with an evil plot fueling them to perform for the concert goers. It’s up to the headliners, and help from a fellow hero, Ghost-Spider, to save the concert and stop Deep Void’s disastrous plot.
The Writing
If there’s one thing Jason Loo will do, it’s ensure that you will have a great time when reading his comics. I loved his Dazzler run and I was really excited to see him come back to Dazzler with Concert of Champions #1. In this comic, it was interesting to see Dazzler in such a vulnerable state of mind, and even better when we saw her fellow headliners help her when she needed it. Concert of Champions #1 is a really exciting read with Marvel characters working together, which I really want to see more of from these particular characters.
The Art
With such a fun story, you have to have art that matches it and Rafael Loureiro, Ruairi Coleman, Yen Nitro, Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, and Ariana Maher gave just that. With the bright colors courtesy of Yen Nitro and Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, juxtaposed the fantastic drawings by Rafael Loureiro and Ruairi Coleman, we have a visually stunning comic. Loureiro and Coleman gave so much detail in each panel, it really added a lot of depth to each page. The artists deserve a ten out of ten themselves!
Overall Grade – 9.2/10
