The Writing:

Chris Condon continues to craft a hauntingly relevant narrative, blurring the lines between justice and desperation. The Freshwater housing development promised a better future, but for its residents, it became a symbol of exploitation—a bitter reminder of how the rich profit from the struggles of the less fortunate. This underlying theme adds weight to the mystery, making the horror of the Freshwater Killer feel tragically inevitable.

Condon expertly explores the breaking point of human endurance—how injustice, when left unchecked, breeds something far more dangerous. Oliver and the police believe they’re closing in on answers, but the reality is far more sinister. The pacing is razor-sharp, and just when the tension reaches its peak, the issue leaves readers eagerly awaiting what’s next.

The Art, Colors and Letters:

Montos’ visual storytelling is nothing short of brilliant. Many scenes unfold with minimal dialogue, allowing the art to carry the weight of the moment. The expressions, body language, and panel composition let readers linger in each scene, absorbing every detail.

Longtime Green Arrow fans will appreciate Oliver’s classic suit design and the return of his iconic Arrow Bike—small touches that feel like a love letter to his history.

Adriano Lucas’ colors amplify the crime-noir atmosphere, particularly in the night sequences. The rain-slicked streets, moody lighting, and deep shadows make every panel feel cinematic. And while the story leans heavy on tension, moments of levity—like Oliver playing the oblivious rich guy—are made even funnier through facial expressions and well-placed color shifts.

Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s lettering seamlessly integrates with the action, enhancing the emotional weight of each scene. The placement and style intensify key moments, making every line of dialogue and inner monologue hit harder.

Final Thoughts:

Green Arrow #22 is a gripping blend of social commentary and thriller storytelling, pushing Oliver deeper into a case that feels all too real. With an engaging script, immersive visuals, and flawless lettering, this issue continues to elevate the Freshwater Kills arc.
