A trip to Coney Island’s Dreamland exhibit seems like a fun time. Good times don’t last forever though and things get heated between the gangs, the press, and the exhibition until an all out brawl ensues. In the chaos of the fray, the hired assassin from K’un-Lun strikes! It’s Alpha Predator vs Alpha Predator in Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk #3!

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk Gets Hot!

Sabretooth and Fisk have been tearing through the Five Points of New York, imposing their will on the underground gang network. Victor Creed has become a one man army against any and all challengers. The gangs decide to work together an hire their own Warrior. A challenger from K’un-Lun!

The Gang Hires an Assassin – Always Sunny in Sabretooth

Now we find the crew enjoying a night out on Coney Island, enjoying the exhibit of famed explorer Marmaduke Dix. There are Easter Eggs galore with classic Marvel characters, Savage Land references, and even the sarcophagus of a mysterious Egyptian God!

Step Right Up to Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk!

As the show culminates with a demonstration of a suit of mechanical armor from a foreign man addressed as Mr. Vanko (wink, wink), a member of the press starts hassling Fisk and Saretooth. This obviously doesn’t sit well with Victor Creed of all people and eventually draws a crowd of his own. When fits start getting thrown, it’s a mad dash to get Fisk to safety. Enter The Dragon. What ensues is a brutal and entertaining fight between relentless warriors that takes a few twists and turns. You won’t believe how this one ends!

Let’s go back to the beginning of Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk Digs Deep

Frank Tieri continues to sprinkle in artifacts and little nods of history in this series. I won’t spoil the specifics, but it is a blast to see them, recognize them, and in some cases, have fun researching them! This Dreamland exhibition on Coney Island was a great tool for bringing the working parts of this story all together and inject a reasonable conflict in to the plot. We get to see Fisk’s vulnerabilities, the over-confident lack of awareness from Sabretooth, and a deeper dive into world building!

Dragonfire Burns Her Mark Onto Marvel Comics

On top of all that, we’re introduced to Dragonfire, a new “Iron Fist of K’un-Lun”! This issue was a fantastic debut, demonstrating Dragonfire as a worthy opponent to someone like Sabretooth. Speed, strength, combat knowledge, and strategy plus the fire of the Iron Fist! I don’t want to spoil too much, but you won’t believe how she stops Sabretooth in his tracks!

The Art of Battle in Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk

I love every bit of action in Michael Sta. Maria’s artwork. His use of angles, panel layouts, dimensions, and scale all brought a big fight feel to Sabretooth and Dragonfire! We are immersed in this time period through fashion, architecture, and character designs. Everything comes together in unison and makes for a delightful page turner!

Colors in this issue shine thanks to the fire effects of Dragonfire! From the soft glow of the carnival lights to the blazing flames of Dragonfire’s sword, lighting effects are executed perfectly. With any Sabretooth related story there’s plenty of bright red blood to throw around as well. To that point we get lots of sound effects, battle cries, and heated language brought to life by Joe Sabino!

Overall Grade 9.2/10

This was a wild ride that kept giving me surprise after surprise! I was honestly apprehensive to where this was going, but I’m sold! Crazy fun action compliments the interesting story being told. Saretooth shines in character, as opposed to just being a killing machine. The gang dynamics are great. The historical references make for added adventure. All in all a great book front to back!
