Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the FIRST issue of Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories from Michael Moreci & Dark Horse Comics!

This is the first issue in a five issue miniseries focusing on Clone force 99. They’re the same crew we saw in season 7 of The Clone Wars & the entirety of The Bad Batch! The Bad Batch ended last year, and The Clone Wars ended a few years ago.

Both shows are phenomenal & I highly recommend both of them. So to see our favorite clone force back in action is awesome! So without further ado, let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #1 by Michael Moreci (writer), Reese Hannigan (penciling), Elisabetta D’Amico (inking), Michael Atiyeh (color art), Tyler Smith & Bobby Bradford (letterers), Valeria Favoccia (cover art) is a fantastic first issue. It’s an incredible read if you’ve watched The Clone Wars/The Bad Batch. That isn’t to say you HAVE to have watched them to get it, but it does add to the reading experience.

The story is set DURING the events of The Clone Wars, which was a very nice surprise. I figured the series was going to take place between one of the seasons, or perhaps before the Bad Batch started. But to see the familiar setting of The Clone Wars warms my heart.

MORE STAR WARS!

Now, I should be clear and say that we don’t know when this takes place in relation to the events of The Clone Wars. It’s clearly before the events at the end of season 7, so that only leaves us with a window of 6.5 seasons to work with.

Michael Moreci pens a FANTASTIC story in this issue that honestly feels like it could’ve been an episode from one of the television series. After taking care of some business with the Seperatists, Clone Force 99 is called back to Coruscant for an urgent situation by none other than Mace Windu himself!

The story that follows is all the mystery, intrigue & espionage you’d expect from the Bad Batch when operating in the shadows and trying to avoid direct confrontation. Michael did a fantastic job capturing the feel of a story with The Bad Batch and I would love to commend him for that.

The artwork by Reese Hannigan, Elisabetta D’Amico & Michael Atiyeh is top notch and feels directly lifted from an episode of the television series. It really adds to the story and helps immerse those who are familiar with the characters and the universe overall at this time period. It also really compliments the story with that same familiarity.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

FINAL POINT: A fantastic story together with incredible artwork mix for a can’t miss issue if you’re a Star Wars fan. And if you’re a fan of The Clone Wars and/or The Bad Batch than this issue HAS to be at the top of your reading list this week. It’s a shame this is only going to be 5 issues in total, because I would LOVE to see a full series.
