“Angels I Hate’em All”
Gunslinger is still trying to save his dog companion from the bear that has been attacking them. He is conflicted because on one end he could kill the bear to save them both. But he feels kinship with animals including this bear. However, the bear won’t stop, and it looks like Gunslinger’s hand is going to be forced.
Just as it seems all hope is lost and the bear continues to attack, they are saved by Godsend. This angers Gunslinger as he is not fond of the heavenly figures. Even though Godsend has saved them, and is technically not in Gods favor, it does not change Gunslinger’s attitude. Now the fight is on between the two. Who will come out on top and why is Godsend here to begin with?
Fearlessness
At the end of issue 39 it appeared that Gunslinger may have met his maker. However, not only does Todd McFarlane swerve us on the demise. He also uses the opportunity to bring in Godsend, to up the ante. He weaves in some great action and story to really push us forward.
The art as always is top tier in this issue. Carlo Basberi does an awesome job on the character design and the action sequences are lifelike. Couple that with the awesome color pallet that Ivan Nunes uses, and it’s a match made in heaven.

Final Thoughts
Gunslinger Spawn #40 builds on the Hellspawn getting their powers back and of course building to the big crossover Spawniverse event. It does both successfully and brings the heat in the process. This is a must read for Spawn fans, and everyone should be getting hyped for the crossover.
Overall Grade: 9/10
