The Herald of Galactus

Spider-Gwen is a hero to her core, even when she’s instructed to act like the villain. When Gwen is enlisted to be the Herald of Galactus, it was for the good of someone else. The former herald was wounded and close to death before Gwen stepped in and offered to take her place.

Galactus, being the World-Devourer, has an appetite only planets can satisfy. It’s Gwen’s job to find planets for him to eat, so Gwen tries her best to find planets that are uninhabited to keep deaths at a minimum. She finds herself on a new planet that she takes as being pretty empty, that is until she is attacked by a dragon. While trying to take the dragon down, a group of locals finds her and tries to assist. Turns out, Gwen isn’t the only person on this planet. Far from it actually since there are many villages that reside there, according to her new friends.

Although she’s the Herald of Galactus, and she is bound to the World-Devourer, she still must do whatever she can to protect this planet and its people.

The Writing

I have to say, I had a great time with What If…? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen! Kalinda Vazquez’s writing really shines in this comic, as it fits the character of Gwen really well. I really enjoyed seeing Gwen in action as the Herald of Galactus, but still her normal Spider-Hero self. It was interesting seeing the parallels between Gwen and the civilians of the new planet, as Gwen saw herself in Eberin, especially in his trauma. All in all, I would love to see more of this.

The Art

I can’t say enough about the artwork of What If…? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen! Gwen looks stunning as the Herald of Galactus, and really shines in the action sequences of the comic. The comic is a vibrant thrill ride from beginning to end filled with bright contrasting colors and an impeccable amount of attention paid to the details. The artists deserve a 10 out of 10 themselves.

Overall Grade: 10/10
