Well, this is a big train nightmare. Writer Olivia Cuartero-Briggs, Artist Martina Niosi, Colorist Simone D’Angelo, and Letterer Becca Carey have made a beautiful first issue.

We have the issue start at night with a moving train. It’s destroyed a little on the outside, but the inside is much worse. There are dead bodies everywhere, and 4 workers outside rushing to kill everyone else. It’s wild to see all of the dead bodies by the time they finish up.
We then cut to the morning, and we see a woman wake up in her bed. This is where we meet our main character Vanessa. She is getting ready for the day, and then heads to the kitchen. Her fiancee Richard is working, and she goes and makes herself coffee.
She then watches the news, and they are talking about New York’s Kill Train Initiative. A whistleblower talks about it, and she tears the program apart. After that, her agent Mark calls, and it’s not good news. Her proposal was rejected, and she doesn’t take the news lightly.
Once she finishes talking to Mark, Vanessa goes to get her daughter Kay to send her to school. But Kay makes finding her a game of hide-and-seek. Vanessa tries her best, but Kay outwits her. The two of them then talk about Kay skipping school classes.
They then take a cab to drop Kay off. After the drop-off, Amy, one of the other moms, stops to talk to Vanessa. They got into a full conversation, and after that, Vanessa realized she didn’t have her taxi card.
The taxi driver then leaves, and Vanessa calls her mom for both advice and help. The 2 of them have a full conversation, and her mom tries to be helpful. We then see Vanessa’s inner thoughts fully take over, and this is an interesting moment to watch happen.
This moment is then broken when Vanessa’s friend from college Corwin talks to her. After they talk, both of them get on the train. Vanessa’s purse gets stuck in the door, and the 2 women continue to talk.
The final panels show that this is a Kill Train. For Vanessa, this isn’t going to be good at all.
Overall Grade: 10/10
I have been a fan of Olivia’s since her Fate: The Winx Saga released last year. And to see her get a comic series is amazing. This first issue solidifies it as a Mad Cave comic that everyone is going to enjoy.
