Amazing Spider-Man #64:
We are halfway through the 8 Deaths of Spider-Man and as you might have guessed, Peter is trying to save humanity while also doing his best to stop dying over and over as mankind’s champion.
Essentially Doctor Doom is the new Sorcerer Supreme and chose Peter to fight the eight Scions of Cyttorak.
Much like a video game, Peter has also been granted eight extra lives, but what happens if he or Doom miscalculated how many times he in fact has to die?!?! That is what Peter is trying to figure out.
Creative Team:
Writer: Justina Ireland
Artist: Gleb Melnikov
Color Artist: Marcio Menyz
Letters: VC’S Joe Caramagna
PUBLISHER: Marvel Comics
The Art:
Consider me a Melnikov fan! The art is a blend McFarlane and Humberto Ramos, playful, with attention to detail and almost the ability to create a true work of art!
It genuinely feels modern with some amazing throwback qualities that takes me back to the 90’s.
The faces have an anime quality to them as well and it’s a beautiful blend of influences and styles that I can’t say I’ve quite seen before!

The Writing:
The storyline is a lot to get used to, as it feels much like a video game. There is some dialogue and planning, but it really feels like Spider-Man taking on boss after boss as he moves up levels and waits to see if he has what it takes to protect Earth.
Peter has his usual quips, so that’s a tether to the classic Spidey we know and love, but this is a true new, unique story that some might love and others might feel confused about.
This issue is unique in that it seems Peter has figured out a hack to get him through the challenges, but it can’t be that simple … right?!?!
We’ll have to wait till next month to see how this discovery actually turns out! My gut is telling me Peter hasn’t quite thought of everything.
Overall: 8/10
It’s a unique take and a reset of sorts after the Zeb Wells run, one with action and a fresh perspective on the iconic character.
We’ll have to wait and see how this all wraps up to see if this version of Spider-Man has legs … eight legs to be specific.
