Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics are reigniting the Invincible Universe with the announcement of Battle Beast, a brand-new comic series from Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley, set to debut in April 2025. This marks the first new Invincible comic in seven years and promises to delve into the untold story of one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.
The Return of Battle Beast
Reuniting the creative powerhouses behind Invincible, co-creator Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Void Rivals) and contributing creator/artist Ryan Ottley (The Amazing Spider-Man) are set to explore the mysterious and brutal journey of Battle Beast. First introduced in Invincible #19, the ferocious warrior quickly became a fan-favorite due to his complex motivations and insatiable hunger for combat.
“Moving from the comic series directly to the animated series, I’ve been itching to do something new,” said Kirkman. “There’s a massive gap in Battle Beast’s appearances between Invincible #19 and #55, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to tell this story with Ryan.”
Ottley echoed Kirkman’s enthusiasm: “When Robert mentioned doing a Battle Beast series, I jumped at the idea. It’s amazing to be back in the Invincible Universe, and I haven’t had this much fun since Invincible!”

Set between pivotal moments in Invincible, Battle Beast will chronicle the character’s quest for the ultimate opponent who might finally defeat him, a mission driven by his desperate desire to protect others from his own destructive nature. Fans can expect a narrative rich with high-stakes action, emotional depth, and the vibrant, gory visuals that defined Invincible.
Ben Abernathy, Executive Editor at Skybound, teased that the new series will be “the most badass comic possible,” with Kirkman and Ottley pouring their all into crafting an unforgettable experience.

Adding to the excitement, Battle Beast #1 introduces a unique blind-bag cover program.
