The Story:
Iron Man and War Machine have headed out west to build a new team of Avengers, one including heroes and villains seeking to redeem themselves. Their first new recruit… Ultron! Can this new team of heroes and the not so heroic band together to become something great? Can Ultron truly be redeemed?
The Writing:
Gerry Duggan picks up where he left off in his incredible Iron Man run to drop the reader straight into the wild world of this new West Coast Avengers team! This book gets straight to the point by putting Ultron front and center while having the issue narrated by Tony Stark. Duggan proves, once again, that he is the master of the Stark inner monologue here as Tony lays out the mission and his concerns while trying to deal with a group of domestic terrorists. This is fast paced storytelling that is perfectly paced and grips you from the start. Each page was well crafted with individual team members’ motives being quickly and clearly defined. To top off this delicious sundae of action and fun, the final button on this issue sets up the story that is to come in the best way possible. I am so happy to have Duggan back writing Iron Man and this looks to be a wild ride that I can’t wait to take!

The Art:
The art team on this issue really left me with my jaw on the floor. From the pencils to the colors and the layouts, every piece of this was beautiful! It was a wonderful treat to see the Silver Centurion armor back in action and seeing Ultron on the side of the angels was a real trip. The rest of the Avengers looked great as well and the action was well paced and incredibly entertaining. Of course, the cover and the variants are wonderful pieces of art that I would love to have framed on my wall!
The Verdict: 10/10
This is about as perfect a first issue as you can get! Incredible art and a perfectly paced story make this one a must read for every Marvel fan. The set up, action, and final button teasing what is to come are all perfectly executed. I was looking forward to this book for a long time and now that it is here, I cannot wait to see what this team has in store!
