Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week, I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue of the Dispatches From The Occlusion Zone story. It is set in The High Republic Adventures issues from Alyssa Wong & Dark Horse Comics!
The story takes on a new perspective. This time, with the story again coming from behind the Nihil stormwall in what’s known as the Occlusion Zone. The stormwall is a force field that only those with the right equipment can get past.
VOTE IN THIS YEAR’S CHEERSIES!
Republic ships can’t get past it or they’ll be destroyed. So in an effort to get an update on what’s going on century old technology is being used to bypass the wall and find out what’s going on behind enemy lines in the form of EX Droids. So with that in mind, let’s jump into it!
Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Dispatches From the Occlusion Zone #2 by Alyssa Wong (writer), Valeria Favoccia (illustrator), Michael Atiyeh (color art), Comicraft’s Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betancourt (letters) & Jake Bartok (cover art) is an interesting issue.
It’s a chaotic issue, but that’s the kind of state of things behind the stormwall. Sure there might be somewhat of a Republic presence but they’re on their own. Reinforcements cannot assist them, as they’ll be destroyed before they can pass through the wall. So as a result, crime is rampant and everyone is on their own.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW
The focus of this issue is Jedi Knight Qort. Qort has gotten hold of one of the EX Droids. He is detailing what he’s doing in an effort to combat the Nihil occupation. Then you have another EX droid that was found by a character named Driggit and brought it to who I’m guessing is her superior. After that the issue losses some of it’s steam. It jumps around a battle that takes place between some of the main characters and enemy forces. It isn’t a bad story, but it was a little difficult for me to follow.
FINAL POINT: It’s hard to say where this series is going. This is a new writer for the issue and the last one was written by Daniel Jose Older. If it’s going to be an anthology series, that’s fine. It’s going to be very hard to connect with these characters if we’re going to learn about them in one issue and not see them again in another. The issue is fine if you’re looking for a quick read or looking to spice up your reading list this week. Overall I wouldn’t put it very high on the MUST READ list this week.
SCORE: 7.0 out of 10
