The Great War

The issue starts with the carnage that was left behind after the last issue. Lord Slithe injured but very much alive. He is attempting to escape with the Sword of Plun’darr, and only succeeds with the help of an unknown masked Reptillian Warrior. As they move along to safety it is realized that the ThunderCats are not only alive but have won the battle.

As Slithe decides that he and the Reptillian Warrior’s best option is to retreat, he shares a story about the Great War of Thundera. Lord Slithe also shares how he left his family to destroy the Thunderians, and well he was occupied with the war, Thunderians would invade Plun’darr and kill his family and other innocents.

The two Reptillian’s would run into the Lord of the Monkians, and needless to say the Monkian leader was upset about their losses in battle. Just as things were getting physical the Reptillian Warrior would kill the Monkian Lord from behind. As much as this shocked Slithe, what happened next was even more shocking.

The Grudge Continues

ThunderCats #10 takes a pause from focusing on the ThunderCats and puts the spotlight on the villainous Lord Slithe. Declan Shalvey makes the reader understand what Slithe’s motivations are and in a lot of ways makes the reader have empathy for the villain. This choice for the issue was a gamble, but the gamble paid off and then some. Not many stories spend an extended period exploring the back stories of their villains, but they should as this issue proves it is a great way to world build.

As always with this series the art is awesome. It gives nostalgic vibes well updating the characters and worlds we are exploring in this issue and series. The whole art team adds to this with colors and lettering that are next level.
