‘The Fix’: A Dystopian World that Feels a Little Too Real and Ruthless

The Fix is available for pre-order and will be available digitally on Nov. 22.

“The Fix” is a new film from writer/director Kelsey Egan that plays more like a potential sign of things to come instead of a dystopian thriller set far into Earth’s future.

Grace Van Dien (“Stranger Things,” “The Village”) leads the cast as a successful yet troubled model seemingly wading through a dying world solely on her good looks, painful past and not much else.

The world’s air is toxified and Daniel Sharman‘s (“Fear the Walkign Dead”) Pharma juggernaut, Aethera, has found the cure – though it’s pricey, doesn’t last long and is only available to the truly rich and elite – sound a little too familiar?

The move opens with the interconnected backstories of Ella, her friends who are growing tired of her baggage, and Aethera, the company that plans to save the world … for a price.

But there is a growing faction fighting to save humanity through more open, free and permanent means. That permanence could also come at a price, but it’s not money that you’ll pay.

Unfortunately for Ella, fate intervenes and she ends up taking this new drug unknowingly, which sets her on a course of transformation, inside and out.

With dystopian stories all the rage, this film truly separates itself through Egan’s unique perspective.

As both director and scribe, Egan pick a truly terrifying, yet poignant way that humanity could meet its downfall. It’s also something that feels a little too real and possible.

Sharman also shines as a complicated, layered Pharma titan – part dogmatic hero of humanity and part sociopath who will stop at nothing to separate the classes and focus on the bottom line for his shareholders.

The little visual details also add to the experience as nothing is too small or too inconsequential.

The film really is a must watch when it hits Apple TV later this week as it will leave you pondering many of your life choices up to this point.

What does our future look like if we continue down this path?
