The Before Times

Before the accident Melvin was bullied but would fight back not physically but emotionally. Like the time he crashed the pep rally in his signature tutu. Fast forward to post accident and one of the kids that bullied him, Pluto is also a toxic sludge monster. However, Melvin takes sympathy on him and is trying to help him out and get through this whole thing.

Meanwhile, Lydia Flick from Biohazard Solutions has an offer for Melvin to become the Community Liaison for the Adverse Discharge Event. As Melvin turns the offer down, Pluto breaks out of the house and is on mission to try and find his other friends. During Pluto’s rampage he consumes more toxic sludge and becomes gigantic. Now Melvin must try and stop Pluto, all well Biohazard Solutions and Special Forces move forward with their alternative mission.

Toxic Avenger to Save the Day

The Toxic Avenger #2 built on the first issue and improved on the confusion of the first issues layout. Matt Bors is building a new world and origin for a beloved character and is absolutely nailing it. The story brings you into the world of Tromaville and lets you into the psyche of all the citizens we are meeting. Setting up the bad people of this world, while slowly rolling out their true intentions is amazing as well.

The art in The Toxic Avenger #2 is awesome. The character designs are fantastic and really bring out the character’s personality. Fred Harper does an awesome job of bringing Tromaville to life. Lee Loughridge proves why he’s one of the best colorists in the game today. The color pallet in this issue is insane and makes the art pop in every panel. The lettering by Rob Steen is creative and really sets this book apart from other contemporaries in the genre.

Final Thoughts

The Toxic Avenger #2 ramped things up from the first issue. As this story builds it feels as if it is getting better. This is one of those books you should pick up and give a chance to, and then keep your eyes on this series as it continues. This may be the sleeper series of the end of this year and beyond.

Final Grade: 9/10
