Schools Back In
Riley is a teenage metal kid, whose mom was a punk rock legend before he was born. Together with Savvy, Glory, and Lydia they make up the band FML. They live in a suburban oasis that is very peaceful and progressive. Even their high school is a P.C paradise.
As outcasts of sorts, they have the coolest outcast hideaway called the Witch’s Castle, complete with its own urban legend. But if this seems like it’s just a story about rebellious kids in suburbia, just wait till you get to the last few pages of this first issue.
Devils Offer Deals
This story has a familiar feel to it but hits you with intrigued and a few curve balls. Kelly Sue DeConnick does a great job of capturing teenage angst, as well as also making us instantly care about our main characters. This issue sets the table for the series, but you realize that DeConnick hasn’t even stepped on the gas yet, which is very exciting.
The art in this book captures that teenage angst feel with a punk rock vibe. David Lopez & Cris Peter with the art and color respectively give a Gorillaz feel to the art style. This works amazing for the books feel and really draws your eyes in. Lastly, shout out to Clayton Cowles letters work which gives you context and emotional feel throughout this issue.

FML #1 really delivers on all aspects. The story is on point and intriguing, well the art draws your eyes in and makes you want more. This is a happy addition to my Pull List, and I will be chomping at the bit for issue 2.
